Incorporated in 1866 as an separate municipality, LaVilla is one of the oldest original suburbs of 19th century Jacksonville. Quickly developing into a multicultural community, the district would not have become a place of entertainment, music and business for Jacksonville's Black community if it were not for the significant contributions of women.
