13. Jumpin Jax Restaurant

The third location of Jumpin’ Jax House of Food will open soon on the ground floor at 20 West Adams Street. When complete, the 100 to 110 seat restaurant will serve breakfast and lunch during weekdays.

15. Lofts at Jefferson Street Station

The Lofts of Jefferson Street Station project is now nearing completion just south of the JTA Skyway’s Jefferson Street station between West Bay and Water Streets. Developed by Jacksonville-based TVC Development Inc., 80 units of the 133-unit multifamily project are set aside for affordable housing. The remaining 53 units are dedicated to workforce housing.

16. The Barnett

The SouthEast Development Group’s restoration of the old Barnett National Bank building nears completion with 100 apartments and 50,000 square feet of commercial and office space. A $1.5 million build-out of the ground floor for a 5,402 square foot Chase Bank branch location is now underway.

17. Lofts at Brooklyn

Construction is now underway on the Lofts at Brooklyn. When complete, the estimated $30 million project will add 133 affordable and workforce housing units at the intersection of Jackson and Chelsea Streets.

18. Jacksonville Landing

The City of Jacksonville has moved forward with the demolition of Jacksonville Landing into a grass lot. Future plans call for an additional $2.25 million to be set aside over the next three years to plan out a lawn for the site. This lawn will set aside two small building pads for future commercial development. An additional $250,000 will be spent on a market study to determine the shape the future building pads and what types of uses could potentially go there.

19. Wolfson Children’s Critical Care Tower

Construction is underway on a seven-story tower that will serve as the new “front door” for Baptist Health’s Southbank medical campus. Wolfson Children’s Critical Care Tower is anticipated to be completed in 2021.

20. Ambassador Hotel

Augustine Development Group has completed interior demolition work and is now seeking building permit approval for the restoration of the long closed Ambassador Hotel. The St. Augustine-based developer plans to invest $6 million to retrofit the 95-year-old building into a 127-room La Quinta Inn & Suites with a rooftop bar. Additional plans for the site involve the construction of a $38 million, 200-unit apartment complex. The apartment project will be developed by The Vestcor Companies.

21. VyStar Credit Union

VyStar Credit Union is in the process of renovating the VyStar Tower (formerly SunTrust Tower) and the adjacent Life of the South building into the credit union’s corporate headquarters. VyStar plans to activate the first floor of both buildings with restaurants, bars and retail space.

22. Main Street Dog Park

Failing as a public space that attracts people (other than the homeless) on a consistent basis, the City of Jacksonville plans to convert the Main Street Pocket Park into a $400,000 dog park. However, no work has taken place in months despite fencing the site off to limit human interaction with the space.

23. Brooklyn Place

Ponte Vedra Beach-based The Ferber Company is in the process of building a new 11,500 square foot retail center at the intersection of Riverside Avenue and Leila Street. Brooklyn Place’s future tenants include Panera Bread, Chipotle, Bento Asian Kitchen + Sushi and Chop Barbershop.
