4. 905 West Forsyth Street

Completed in 1908, 905 West Forsyth Street is one of a handful of buildings still standing from the area’s days as a red light district. During its early years, the structure was occupied by an African-American owned market by William Nattel. The market was the closest retail storefront to a laundry list of brothels including The Senate, House of Spanish Marie and Cora Crane’s The Court. In later years, the five storefront retail building was utilized by Lee & Cates Glass before being purchased by the city in 2003. In October 2017, the DIA board approved marketing the 0.24-acre property to potential developers.

3. Old City Hall Annex and County Courthouse

In 2017, Mayor Lenny Curry earmarked $8 million to demolish the old City Hall Annex and County Courthouse. Now the DIA is in the process of disposing the site at 220 and 330 East Bay Street. What it seeks is a proposal for convention center complex with a 350-room full-service hotel, a minimum 200,000-square-foot public exhibit hall, a minimum 40,000-square-foot ballroom, at least 45 meeting and breakout rooms, a full-service restaurant, parking garage and more.
