Within walking distance of Fort Lauderdale’s Virgin Trains USA passenger railroad station, the Society 8 Hospitality Group is in the process of developing a 23,000-square-foot warehouse into the city’s first food hall. Anchored by Fort Lauderdale-based Khoffner Brewery, the chef-driven “lifestyle complex” will include 12 vendors in 400-square-foot kiosks, office and retail space, a rooftop garden, a stage for live music performances, classroom and meeting space, event space and a coffee roasting facility. Developed at a cost of $6 million, Sistrunk is expected to open in November 2019 and create 50 jobs.

As a part of its massive 202-acre, $500 million Packing District redevelopment project, Orlando-based Dr. Phillips Charities has hired DAP Design to serve as the project architect for the Packing District’s food hall. Plans call for the old Great Southern Box Company building to be repurposed into a 22,400-square foot food hall called the Southern Box Food Hall. Featuring an outdoor green and elevated plaza, the former 1930s orange crate factory will consist of a micro-brewery, a 4,000-square-foot event space, signature restaurant and bar, 14,000 square feet of retail space and 10,000 square feet of office space. Southern Box Food Hall is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2020.
