Established in September of 2019, Jax Rides, LLC is owned and operated by married couple, Amy and Katie Derringer, who are residents of Jacksonville’s Historic Springfield neighborhood. According to Amy,
“We went to Austin a couple years back and went on a fat-tire electric bike tour. We had such an unforgettable experience and have been dreaming of this concept coming to life in Jacksonville. Now we’re all in and ready to cruise!”
The electric bikes are one-of-a-kind, featuring wide handlebars and 8-inch wide tires, echoing the nostalgia of a cruiser motorcycle. Participants in the tours operate their own bike on the tour. Jax Rides offers a full safety briefing and training session as part of its tours so no prior riding experience is required.
Tour availability began on October 26th with Friday, Saturday and Sunday options. Riders must be 16 years or older to operate the bikes. Each paying adult rider can include a passenger at no additional charge, provided the passenger is a minimum of 48 inches tall. Tours cost $55 per bike for a 90-minute ride with the safety briefing and practice session.
The Jax Rides tours begin in the Springfield neighborhood and continue through the Downtown Northbank and the Southbank. An array of information is shared along the tour stops including facts about the city’s history, pop culture and suggestions for the best local restaurants and watering holes.
