Brief Description of Project

Positioned at the heart of Jacksonville’s civic life, the James Weldon Johnson Park has seen significant historical shifts - from being a significant indigenous crossroads to enduring Colonial occupation and even serving as the site of Ax Handle Saturday. Today, it stands in front of key landmarks including city hall, the public library and a JTA Skyway station. With its last major renovation dating back to the 1980s, the City of Jacksonville is partnering with HOOD Design Studio to envision a revitalized park that references the city’s history, its dynamic citizens, the operational and programmatic needs of a modern day civic park.
