In 2013, the owners of the historic Bostwick Building requested approval to demolish the long abandoned structure. Instead, viewed as very significant to efforts to revitalize the city center, City Council overwhelmingly voted to designate the structure as a historic landmark and deny its owners the permission they sought to demolish the building. Later the City of Jacksonville filed a suit against the building owners to foreclose on code enforcement liens associated with the property. With support from the Downtown Investment Authority and the City of Jacksonville’s Historic Preservation Trust Fund, the building reopened as the Cowford Chophouse in October 2017.
